What is the difference between a feral cat and a stray cat?

A feral kitten

A feral cat is one that is born in the wild and has not had human contact. It will hunt for its own food and takes care of its personal grooming. It may come close to you but not let you touch it.On the other hand, a stray cat is one that has had human contact and been fed by a human. Although it might be afraid of you when you approach it, it won't be long before it will trust you enough to let you handle it.You may find this cat unkept because it will be stressed to be on its own. It may be thin because it has to learn how to hunt for food.

Most cats will have a breeding season. Cats in our area will most likely have a breeding season that covers roughly from February to September. This is regulated by the amount of daylight, but some inside cats can breed all year round. Unfortunately there is really no true way of telling when your cat can/will get pregnant. You must assume that your cat is able to conceive through every season. If you do not want your cat to have surprise litter, then spay and neuter is the only sure way to keep this from happening.

Crawford County Spay & Neuter Foundation says "Thank You for being so kind"

We are a not for profit business. We are here to help reduce the burden of unwanted animals that end up in the shelter due to pet owners who cannot afford to spay or neuter their pets and end up with litters that they do not want..
Give us a call 544-2555  Let us help you. Remember we are not a shelter and do not house the animals. We only spay & neuter.

Although we are concentrating on the feral cat population, we also help with spaying and neutering of the dogs in the county. So if you have a dog and want help give us a call.

TNR PROGRAM

A trapped feral cat

CCSNF would like to put some of its energy into a TNR (trap-neuter-release) Program. This simply means that we humanely trap the animal, take them to the vet to be checked, get them spayed or neutered, give them rabies shots and then release them back into their natural setting to live out their lives in the wild.

This is the more humane way to treat overpopulation of these animals.
Trapping also keeps the balance of nature.
